Applying for a Job – Run Pre Employment Check on Yourself to Mark Success!

by como ·

Over 90% of companies run background checks on applicants-.

Unemployment is soaring. Many employers have already seized new hiring ventures and very few jobs are available. Despite a very modest improvement in recent months, the job market is still hovering around 9.5% unemployment, unthinkable four years ago. In most fields and industries, competition for the best jobs is almost overwhelming.

Is there anything a common job seeking person can do to stand out from the unemployed crowd? Actually, there is a way by which you can mark your primal success over your competitor candidate and how it’s going to be happen, when you run your own background employment check before applying a job.

The question arises in every job seeking mind that how running an employment check upon yourself might help in getting a prospective job career. So it is simply because, first it enables you to find out if any erroneous information is being reported about you. And second, it reassures potential employers that the qualifications you present in your job application are true and correct. A study conducted by a human resource and recruiting firm stated that as many as 44% of the resumes and job applications contain inaccuracies or outright deceptions.

Every single employer is now conducting a background check or employment check before hiring. The fact you have presented your own self-background- employment check suggests that a problem is not likely to crop up when the employer runs its own background check. In other means, it can double your chances for being hired as employer will not be able to uncover something which will cause him/her to have to disqualify you at end of hiring process thereby wasting company time and resources.

What’s more, as said, if by chance there is some mistake being made in compiling your background check, for example, a State is erroneously reporting you have a criminal record when if fact you don’t, running your own background check will alert you to this problem so you can take steps to correct it before an employer sees it.

Bottom Line: This may be a good preemptive strategy in today’s killer job market. But how do you go about it? Let’s have a look at it through these simple easy steps to opt for a employment check.

There are four essential pre employment background checks that you can run on yourself are as follows;

1.Education: Pre employment background checks

2.Credit Record or History Checks

3.Employment Criminal background checks

4.Social Security Number Trace

Education Background Check Made Easy:

Education background checks is one of the most essentials checks employers perform as employment checks. Strict credentialing practices are used to verify your university/college accreditations, your study time (attendance and date of admission/passing out) and sometimes your grades are also verified.

When verifying your own university/college degree, the first place you want to look is The National Student Clearinghouse. They run the automated database that provides degree verification very quickly.

Typically, colleges and universities provide education verification over the telephone. You can contact your institution administration/registrar office to confirm the accreditation of university/college with accreditation authorities. Then you can double check your admission/passing out dates as well as your grades.

If your institution cannot find your degree or the name on degree is changed to your current name, (an unusual situation, but it might happen), you have to take care of the problem. You will probably need to fax the school a copy of your diploma or any other documentation you have, to remove the chances of being debugged.

Credit Records or History Pre Employment Background Checks:

Be aware of what is on your credit report, especially if you think a prospective employer might check it. That way, if there are inaccuracies on the report, you can take steps to correct them.

Employers are very keen to know about your credit histories as it can easily predict your future in their organization. So it’s feasible to run a credit history employment check on yourself by adopting these four basic precautions.

Contact your bank and ask them for your credit report.

If you find any mistake or discrepancy, point out and correct it right away.

Make your bank to certify you for clean credit history.

After these 3 steps to resurrection, you can notify your prospective employer of the inaccuracies and of the steps you have taken to correct them.

Criminal Background Checks as Employment Checks:

Employers want to know about your background, and you can be assured that they will check to see if you have a criminal history.

The best source of a complete criminal background employment check is the Department of Justice for your state. If you have a criminal record in multiple states, you will need to contact each state’s Department of Justice. You can also get a copy of your criminal record from the court where your case(s) went to court.

These local records are found in courthouses and police departments, you can also look in specialized searches which include the Terrorist Watch List, the Federal Wanted Persons List, and Sex Offender Registries. Most of these records are contained in large databases that are updated on a regular basis.

Criminal background checks be best searched by hand at the county/states level, with full names, date of birth, should be used as much as possible to confirm a positive identification.

Social Security Number Trace

An applicant’s social security number is used throughout the pre-employment screening process, checking your validity of the number accomplish several things.

It confirms that the number belongs to you and it provides a list of current and previous addresses, as well as other names used.

Make sure each numeral is clearly written so no one has to try and decipher your handwriting.

If you had reason to change your SSN, provide both numbers and add a brief note explaining why you had to change your number. Also, indicate when you started using the newer SSN.

This verification also provides other last names associated with the SSN and a list of previous addresses.

Drawn Conclusion and Recommendations:

The strategy is simple. Get your own employment check report done, and then offer it to an employer as a way of reassuring him that you’re on the up-and-up. This is not at all an uncommon practice these days. You can attach a printed copy of your Self-Check Employment Screening Report to your resume.

Not everyone knows what happens during a pre-employment screening. In fact, most people know very little about it. by como ·

Are your carefully laid plans for a pleasant tour, although perhaps not royal, through your golden years seem to be stalling? Will employment for senior citizens be the answer to your dilemma?

You are not alone? The same feeling is infecting your senior citizen neighbor next door, your sixtyish friend down at the retirement center, your old buddy in the bowling league and your aging sister in Buffalo.

The truth is, you have options! We all do. Too often, we seniors tend to feel betrayed by our government and left to fend for ourselves at the mercy of an indifferent panicking society. Scrub away those thoughts!

You are no different than the forty old accountant that was cut loose by his business firm, or the thirty five year old new car salesman who is left to his own devices.

You are just older than them, but you have a lot more going for you than they do. Most of their experiences and trained talents and skills are still down the road in front of them. Yours are spread out in a panorama behind you.

Look back at your life. Now is the best of times for you to make the things you have learned over the years put you up in front of the growing crowd of employment seekers.

If you were to write down all you have experienced, dealt with, learned from, overcame, and grown from, it would fill an entire library shelf.

Don’t you think that from all of this knowledge and living you can find some things that would increase the performance and productivity of an employers business.

Don’t you realize that the sum of all your hands on training and acquired talents and skills would be of great value to some employer?

There are wheelbarrow loads of gold nuggets kicking around in your head, my friend. Grab hold of a few of them and transform them into that perfect job you are now dreaming about.

It is not as hard to accomplish this as you may think!

Here is a valuable gem of knowledge and fact that should stir up the juices inside of you.
Most vacant employment positions are not even advertised!

Whoa! What does this tell you?

There is no competition for these jobs outside of word of mouth. Why? There are many reasons why this is so.

Maybe the job has not been defined by the manager yet, he knows that the need exists but what will he call it? You can step in and give him a definition. Do some advance homework.

A harried business owner is overworked and wishing for a fairy godmother to wave her wand and provide the perfect assistant. Check out the company and tell him how much easier you can make his life, and earn him more profit as a byproduct.

You read an item in the newspaper, or saw it on the TV news, about a business making substantial growth spurts. That is your cue!

Call the company and inform them all the things you can do for them, and let them know you will be stopping by tomorrow, would he or she have time to spend a few moments with you.

Where can you look for employment for senior citizens? In your own head! Take advantage of your own experience and skills.

There are jobs out there waiting for you. Be creative and bold. It

Know More About The Employment Laws

by como ·

If you are an employer with 1 or more employees, you might need to brush up on your local and national employment laws. Legal employment laws are complicated, strict and change often. Employment laws protect the employee most of the time. Hardly ever is the Employer given the benefit of the doubt if taken to Tribunal. Every employer needs to have their company’s protection well thought out and documented.

There are many such companies online you need to keep in mind to help you with this daunting task. Who has time to sit down and write a procedures manual that captures all the current employment laws every six months. Some websites has the ability to create with you just those protective documents and keep them updated to reflect the latest changes in the laws protecting employees.

These days when almost everyone has access to a computer, an employee with a grievance against their employer has plenty of resources and ammunition on the internet to become knowledgeable enough to take the employer to task for discrimination, sexual misconduct or to fight back over the wrong procedures taken for a dismissal. Are you aware that each employee you hire must agree to and sign an Employment Contract? What is an employee contract? It is a document that lays out your company’s expectations and procedures for employees to follow in the day to day workplace environment.

Your company’s employment contract could save you a great deal of money in legal fees, law suits and grievances, not to mention the cost of down time to management personnel having to deal with the employee issues. There is a company geared towards helping you become well protected against situations involving disgruntled employees and other national employment law issues. They are not your normal law firm that asks for a signed contract from you and charges you monthly for services whether you use them or not.

The Human resources laws charges you for services that you do use. No monthly charge. For example: did you know that you legally need to issue Contracts of Employment to each employee? These are signed by the employees in agreement for the employer’s statement of employment terms. This document needs to be provided and signed by each employee within 8 weeks of being hired. Failing to do so may lead to penalties of two to four weeks pay per employee, if taken to a Tribunal. Did you know that it is a National law that you pay each employee the National Minimum Wage? Do you know what those wages are?

Employment laws can change up twice a year. Who has time to stay on top of this? Just search a website that can be there to make sure you are in compliance for each change that comes about. They can give employers peace of mind by ensuring them that all policies and procedures are in place.

Do You Need To Find An Employment Litigation Lawyer

by como ·

If you require the services of an employment litigation lawyer because of allegations being made against your company by a former employee, get in contact with one in your area as soon as possible. It is important to fight back against false allegations in a timely fashion. Speaking with a legal professional can help shed light on the options that are available to you. It can also help to clarify whether there is a case going forward, or whether a quick and simple resolution can be found without going to court.

What you may or may not be aware of is that there are federal and state laws that are imposed upon both employers as well as their staff members. When disputes arise, they generally relate to the obligations and rights that are attributed to either party.

If you find yourself dealing with a situation where a worker felt that their rights were violated while working at your business, you will require the services of an employee litigation lawyer. Mounting an expert defense is paramount to clearing your company of any wrongdoing. While you should attempt to have the matter resolve quickly, if further legal action needs to take place, your attorney will be at your side working on your behalf every step of the way.

An employment litigation lawyer deals with issues related to employment and labor law. If a worker or former worker of yours brings a wrongful discharge claim, a discrimination claim, or a wrongful termination claim against you, the legal representative you hire can work to get the charges dismissed. Anything associated with benefits such as pensions or insurance, claims connected to hours of work, wages, workers’ compensation, or unemployment compensation are all issues that require the assistance of an experienced and skilled legal practitioner. No matter what grievance has been brought against you, hiring a qualified attorney to deal with the situation can help you resume your daily operations. Often, trying to take the matter on by yourself can lead to an undesired outcome.

No matter what the problem is, don’t expect it to go away on its own. Be proactive and take the necessary steps to fix it. Provide your attorney with all relevant documents related to the matter and be open and clear about the circumstances that led up to you relieving the plaintiff of their job duties. Don’t leave anything out. A strong case can be built for you if the facts are all laid out and everything has been disclosed. To protect yourself and the business you worked hard to build, you need the right legal representation.

Employment Law Laws That Protect Employees In The Workplace

by como ·

In the nineteenth century and parts of the twentieth century, employees and employers were largely left to themselves to arrange a working agreement, including payment, work conditions, and so on. Employees had to trust that their employers would treat them fairly, and employers knew that if they didn’t treat their workers well, they might leave to work somewhere else. Although this arrangement worked well for many, during the industrial revolution, employees began to lose their leverage of leaving that kept employers in check.

During the industrial revolution, large factories rose up, employing workers by the thousands. Employers rarely had direct contact with their employees, and people akin to task masters oversaw the workers. Working conditions were harsh. If a worker showed up late to work, was in any way disorderly, or tried to unionize, he or she could be fired. Even children were hired and forced to work long hours in unhealthy environments.

And despite poor working conditions, long hours of arduous labor, and low wages, factory employees had nowhere else to go because most places of employment were the same. These difficulties were most often experienced by immigrants and the poor, and because they had no way to improve their situation, these workers had no choice but to work in these factories and other similar places.

Eventually, in the early twentieth century, the government passed a series of labor laws that helped rectify the poor working situation. These laws established minimum wages, work environment regulations, and union rights. And throughout the century, more laws were periodically passed that made illegal any discrimination (based on gender, religion, age, and so on) against employees.

Because of the sufferings of thousands in those prior years, employees today enjoy the benefits of being guaranteed certain rights. Unfortunately, some employers are still found guilty of disobeying these employee-protection laws.

Today, the most common breach of employee rights is discrimination. Some employers may even inadvertently discriminate against employees based on age, gender, race, religion, or disability. But inadvertent or not, discrimination in the workplace is illegal. One of the only exceptions is discriminating against disability. If a job cannot be performed with reasonable accommodation by a person with a disability, the employer retains the right to not hire that person. Of course what is considered “reasonable” is something of a gray area, but the exception is meant to ensure that employers aren’t forced to hire someone who can’t perform the job.

Another common type of discrimination is based on age. Many have the misconception that someone who is older may not be as good a worker as someone who is young. However, if an elderly person meets all of the requirements of job, he or she must be seriously considered on equal footing with other candidates.

In regards to the payroll, gender discrimination is quite common. In general, women are still paid less than men for performing the same jobs. Although this disparity in pay is becoming smaller and is not as bad as it was just a few decades ago, in general, women are still paid less. The problem in detecting this type of discrimination is that people are often prohibited from discussing income with their coworkers, and many people don’t know what is considered fair pay for their jobs.

Another all-to-common illegal occurrence in the workplace is sexual harassment, particularly toward women. Sexual harassment can range from derogatory or sexual comments to receiving promotions based on sexuality to unwanted forceful actions. And sexual harassment is illegal not only if it comes from an employer but from a coworker as well. Unfortunately, in many cases of sexual harassment, the victims are either too embarrassed or scared to come forward and take legal action against the guilty party.

And although discrimination and harassment are illegal, when people take legal action against their employers on the basis of discrimination, feelings of tension or anger may exist between the two parties. And although there may not be much a person can do to resolve the tense atmosphere, employees can rest assured that if an employer attempts to discharge our fire them because they filed a charge of discrimination, the employer will face additional legal charges.

Employers also cannot legally retaliate against those who take protected leave under the Family Medical Leave Act or who file a workers’ compensation claim. Such retaliation is illegal so that employees will not be threatened or discouraged from filing legal charges.

Sometimes employees find it difficult to prove that they are being discriminated against or they may not be entirely sure what legally qualifies as discrimination or unfair treatment. In these cases, an employment attorney can be helpful. Employment attorneys specialize in labor laws and are familiar with past employment law cases, which can help you better understand your rights and determine if you should take legal action against an employer. And whether you’re looking for a Houston employment attorney or one elsewhere, you should research the attorney’s qualifications and experience before hiring one to advise or represent you.

Labor and employment laws were created after years of worker oppression and in response to employees’ demands for fair and equal treatment. Because of these laws, employees are no longer required to work obscenely long hours for little pay, work in unsafe environments, or suffer from harassment and other abuses. Because of these laws, working conditions have drastically improved, and with the current legal system, employees have a means to constantly evaluate, analyze, and continue to improve working conditions in a way that ensures they can do their best work without fear of oppression or discrimination.

What Qualities Are Needed For Self Employment

by como ·

Self employment does seem to be quite fascinating and one of the best ways of leading your life, but just pause and think – are you really cut out for self employment? There are people who can do quite well being self employed and there are people who just cannot get into the drift. So, where do you fit in?

Here, list the kinds of people who think will never do well in a self employment opportunity. These categories are taken from the top of my head, and there will surely be some more of them. But these are good enough to give a preliminary idea of the kind of person you need to be to become self employed.

1. If you do not have any kind of drive to create your own thing, then you are better off in a daytime job. Self employment is not for you. All self employment opportunities, whatever their nature might be, require you to create. You have to have at least some talent in you that common people do not have. You should be able to create things, and then love them enough to let others partake in your creation.

2. You have to be money-minded. If you are just thinking of entering into a self employment opportunity without any head of business, you are doomed. This is because the entire onus of expenses and investments will fall on you. You will have to sometimes bargain with your clients and get good deals. You have to have those talents.

3. Every person in a self employment venture needs to be a task manager. Oftentimes, the burden of managing a lot of responsibilities will fall on your shoulders. You will have to look after not just the production, but you will also be responsible for the promotion and the investment. So, you have to have good skills in managing all these kinds of works at once. You will need to allocate different times of the day for different purposes.

4. This is very important, though not often said – you will have to have affection for your own self employment venture and you will have to nourish it like a baby. You don’t have to do this in a job, because someone else has already established it. So, can you muster enough love and affection for the business opportunity you are giving birth to? You might have to sometimes spend long hours on it, do things that you don’t like much, and even stretch yourself to the limit. Be prepared for all this.

Applying For A Job Be Aware Of The Employment Background Check

by como ·

More and more these days, employers of all types are conducting background checks on potential employees. But it’s not the criminal background checks that job seekers should be worried about so much as the employment background checks.

Constraints of Background Checks by Employers

Many companies don’t do criminal background checks unless they are in law enforcement. And believe it or not, it is actually illegal for an employer to ask a candidate whether or not they have ever been arrested. However, they are allowed to ask if you have ever been convicted of a specific crime if it is related to the job you are applying for.

A good example would be if you are applying to be a janitor at a grade school. Such a school obviously would not want a pedophile working there, and so they might ask you if you’ve ever been convicted of child abuse. Likewise, retail stores hiring product stockers might ask if you’ve ever been convicted of shoplifting.

However, questions about convictions that are unrelated are generally not allowed. As a candidate that does have a criminal background, you would do well to study the company you are applying at and consider ahead of time whether your convictions are even remotely related to the job. If so, be prepared to answer questions about it. If not, then be prepared respond appropriately for a question that is illegal.

Employment Background Checks

The employment background check is far more common with employers both because of its ease as well as the belief that past performance is the strongest indicator of a candidate’s future performance.

This type of background usually consists of an employer calling the previous employers you have listed. If you have left any employers on bad terms and are concerned about what they might say about your performance there, then listing them might not be the best idea even if the experience you gained there would help you get the job.

The most common flag that appears in employment background checks is that the candidate never even worked where he or she claims to have worked. This will typically result in immediate rejection in your consideration for the job.

The employment background check is virtually universal these days because of how easy it is to catch a candidate in a lie about their history. Employers simply call the past employers listed and confirm that you actually worked there.

Discovering that you have been dishonest is not a good way to start off a relationship with a potential future employer, thus making it very important that you are always honest about your employment history.
